Gospel Reflection – January 27, 2026

Mary and Jesus’ relatives are waiting outside for Jesus while he is inside a house. When he hears this, he asks the crowd who his mother and brothers are; those who do the will of God are his brother, sister, and mother.

Jesus is revealing that following God’s will makes us family, not only familial relations. Obviously, we must also be baptized to become adopted sons and daughters of God, but afterwards, listening to and following God’s will throughout our lives is imperative.

When we take time to discern God’s will and act upon it, we grow closer to Christ, better understanding him and coming to love him more perfectly. With so many voices in the world today vying for our attention, it can be hard to know who to listen to. We only need to listen to one voice: God’s. His will is perfect and will lead us to eternal peace and joy.
