When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him,
Mark 3:21
for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
Reflection
Jesus and his disciples go into a house and attempt to eat, but it is so crowded they are unable. Jesus’ relatives hear of this and come to seize him, saying he is out of his mind.
Jesus was certainly not out of his mind, although it must certainly have seemed that way when so many people crowded around him he couldn’t eat. The people who followed Jesus into the house might also have seemed out of their mind to outsiders. Did they appear to be obsessed about our Lord?
To people we know, we might appear obsessed with Jesus, too. In some ways, we are, because our entire lives are supposed to be centered on him. This “obsession” brings us closer to God if we faithfully follow him, love him, and live a Christian lifestyle. How are you devoting your life to Jesus today?
Saint of the Day
St. Francis de Sales: 1567 – 1622
| “It is reason that makes us men, and yet it is a rare thing to find truly reasonable men, because self-love turns us away from the paths of reason, leading us unconsciously to a thousand small yet dangerous injustices and partialities, which, like the little foxes spoken of in the Song of Songs, destroy the vines.” Introduction to the Devout Life, St. Francis de Sales |
