Gospel Reflection – January 22, 2026

Jesus withdraws to the sea and tells his disciples to have a boat ready because of the large crowd of people that follow him. Unclean spirits shout that Jesus is the Son of God, although Jesus warns them not to make him known.

Jesus had cured so many people already that many more were gathering around him to be healed. He needed a boat to help him not become crushed by the crowds. When we approach Christ, what is our goal? Do we seek him out for a one-time deal? Do we come to be healed, and once that is attained, go our separate ways? Yes, Jesus wants us to come to him with our needs, but he desires that our relationship be more than that.

When we take the time to learn about Christ and fall in love with him, we do receive necessary healing and assistance, but the relationship thrives not out of healing, but out of love. When we give of ourselves to Jesus, not merely expecting to receive something but actually giving ourselves too, we unite ourselves closer to Christ and grow in holiness and love. How can you approach Christ, giving your love to him and receiving it in return?

Saint of the Day

St. Vincent of Saragossa: died ca. AD 304

Not much is known about St. Vincent besides that he was a Spanish deacon and was a martyr under the rule of Diocletian. He was tortured and eventually died for his faith.

St. Vincent of Saragossa, pray for us!
