“The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.
Mark 2:22
That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”
Reflection
Jesus and his disciples are passing through a field on the sabbath and eat some of the grain, which was unlawful. The Pharisees are outraged at this, but Jesus rebukes them by citing King David’s similar action and stating that the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.
Jesus instituted the sacraments to help us grow in holiness and our relationship with God. Through the sacraments, we are able to restore grace into our lives and discover the beautiful mystery of our faith. If we were in paradise with God, we would not need the sacraments, but since this is not the case, our Lord has been gracious enough to give us a means of becoming closer to him.
We all need to take advantage of the sacraments available to us more often. Receiving the Eucharist and going to Confession frequently restore us to right relationship with God, and we are better able to function spiritually. What sacrament is Jesus calling you to partake in more often?
