Gospel Reflection – January 17, 2026

Jesus teaches along the sea, and he passes Levi (Matthew), whom he calls to follow him. Later that day, Pharisees see Jesus eating with tax collectors and sinners and ask Jesus’ disciples why he does so. Jesus hears them and tells the Pharisees that he came to call sinners, not the righteous.

Jesus came for those who most need his help – sinners. We are all sinners and therefore need Christ’s help to be reunited with him perfectly in heaven. The image of Jesus as Divine Physician is a beautiful one to ponder. He not only desires to heal us physically, but spiritually as well.

In this life, we may not experience complete healing. There are certain things we must suffer that will purify us in preparation for heaven. Yet we can be healed from various sins by turning to our Lord at all times, repenting, and obtaining forgiveness through Confession. How can you allow Jesus to heal you today?
