Simon and those who were with him pursued him
Mark 1:36-37
and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
Reflection
Jesus goes to Simon’s house and cures his mother-in-law. That evening, possessed and diseased people are brought to Jesus, and he cures many. The next day, Jesus goes to a deserted place to pray, but the disciples find him and tell Jesus that everyone is looking for him. Jesus replies that they must go to nearby villages and preach there also, because that is his purpose.
Simon tells Jesus that everyone is looking for him. Even in our very sinful and secular world today, these words ring true. People are looking for Christ, even if they don’t know it. They pursue worldly pleasures, thinking those will fill them and give them meaning, but it is only Jesus who can accomplish this.
Even as faithful Catholics, we still look for Christ daily, especially as we continue to develop our relationship with him. Jesus is always there, but sometimes we look in the wrong direction, just like those we may know who are lost and searching for God. In those moments, we can ask the Holy Spirit to gently guide us back to the Truth.
Likewise, when we share the Gospel and live our Christian faith boldly, we can also guide people to Christ. Everyone is looking for Jesus – perhaps we can show them the way.

St. Gregory Nazianzen: ca. AD 325 – 390
| “Do not stop in your path, seeing that the wicked lead a quiet life; neither let your heart be troubled, seeing that the good are suffering. This is the game of life; where nothing should matter to you but the end.” St. Gregory Nazianzen |
