Gospel Reflection – January 11, 2026

Today we celebrate the baptism of the Lord. Jesus is baptized by John, and when he emerges from the water, the Trinity is revealed because the Holy Spirit appears as a dove and God speaks from heaven.

The Holy Trinity is not only revealed, but once again, Jesus shows us his humility. Although he did not need to be baptized, he submits to baptism from John. We also see God’s humility and majesty revealed as well, through a simple dove and a voice calling down from heaven.

We can be amazed at how good our God is – he allows us to witness various wonderful facets of himself in Jesus’ baptism alone. How is God revealing himself to you today, and will you answer his call?

Saint of the Day

“If any one receives not the four general councils as the four gospels, let him be anathema.”

St. Theodosius
