And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them,

until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.
Reflection
Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord. The magi from the east arrive in Jerusalem asking where the newborn king of the Jews is. Herod is concerned by this and charges the magi to find Jesus so he may “pay homage.” The magi find Jesus in Bethlehem and offer him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. When leaving for their country, they are warned in a dream not to return to Herod.
The magi paying homage to Jesus shows that Christ is for everyone, Jew and Gentile alike. Jesus came to save all people, and this is evident right from the beginning. Our Lord wants to reveal himself to all people, showing his love for all.
We all know people who are far from Christ, whether by choice or lack of interest. Yet God desires for them to draw close to his Son as well. Are there ways in which you can evangelize to people you know who are in that circumstance? It doesn’t have to be in grand gestures, but by living out our faith diligently and showing Jesus’ love, mercy, and forgiveness to everyone we encounter, we can spread God’s saving message, so that one day all can do him homage.
