Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon.
Luke 2:25
This man was righteous and devout.
Reflection
Jesus is presented in the temple, and while there, Simeon comes to the temple and praises God for letting him see the Christ, for he was told he would not die before this occurred. Mary and Joseph are amazed at Simeon’s prophecy, for he says that Jesus is destined for the rise and fall of many in Israel.
Simeon is described as a righteous and devout man. We might not pay much attention to Simeon, but he is worth reflecting upon. He was patient, trusting in the Lord’s will that he would see Christ before he died. This comes to pass, and he praises God for fulfilling his word.
Are we patient and trusting in the Lord? Simeon most likely had to wait many years to see Jesus, yet he maintained hope and faith. Sometimes we lose hope when a prayer is not answered for a long time, but we see here that God answers our prayers in his own timing, and it is perfect for us. How can you be more trusting in God today?
