Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter
John 20:2
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved.
Reflection
Mary Magdalene tells Peter that Jesus’ tomb is empty, so he and John run to the tomb. John arrives first, but Peter enters the tomb first and sees that Jesus is not present. John then goes into the tomb, sees the burial cloths, and believes.
John is described as the “disciple whom Jesus loved.” Obviously Jesus loved all of his disciples, but John and he must have had a special relationship. Do we also have a special, loving relationship with Christ? Do we view him as a friend that we can go to at all times? Jesus is not only our Savior, but desires to be a friend to us as well.
We should strive to develop a loving friendship with Christ. When we go to him with our worries and joys, he brings peace to our lives in ways we didn’t know were possible. Jesus loves us in ways we don’t understand, and he wants us to love him back freely. How can you grow in your relationship with Christ today?
