Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
Matthew 1:23
and they shall name him Emmanuel,
which means “God is with us.”
Reflection
Once again, we hear how Joseph is commanded to take Mary into his home and how she will bear a son named Jesus. According to the prophet Isaiah, they shall name the baby Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.”
Today, let us reflect on this – God is with us. God indeed is with us, present not only in our churches and the Eucharist, but also in our hearts. As we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birthday, where he graces the earth with his presence, we can pray about how God is truly with us every day of our lives, guiding us, loving us, and leading us to perfect union with him in heaven.
Saint of the Day
St. Peter Canisius: 1521 – 1597
| “It is plainly wrong to meet non-Catholics with bitterness or to treat them with discourtesy. For this is nothing else than the reverse of Christ’s example because it breaks the bruised reed and quenches the smoking flax.” St. Peter Canisius |
