Gospel Reflection – December 16, 2025

Jesus asks the chief priests and elders a question about a man who has two sons. One son is asked to go work in the vineyard, says he will not, but later changes his mind and goes to work. The man asks his other son the same question and gets a positive reply, yet that son decides not to go work. Jesus asks which son did his father’s will, and they reply that the first one did. Jesus then says that in the same way, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of heaven before the chief priests and elders because they did not believe John the Baptist and refused to change their minds.

How often do we decide to follow God’s will or do something good for the sake of Jesus, only to change our minds later? Do we tell Christ ‘yes,’ only to go back on our word at a later time? We should take care to mean what we say, following through with affirming actions. Let us pray to always do our Father’s will, even when it is difficult, asking for the grace to persevere.
