“This is the one about whom it is written:
Matthew 11:10
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;
he will prepare your way before you.“
Reflection
While in prison, John the Baptist hears about Jesus’ works and sends his disciples to ask Jesus if he is the one who is to come. Jesus charges them with telling John what they see themselves, the deaf hearing and lepers being cleansed. Jesus then tells the crowds that John is the prophet written about, who is to prepare the way before Christ.
The people in Jesus’ time had a messenger, a great prophet, in their midst so that they could prepare for Jesus. This person was John the Baptist. Today, we already know that Jesus is the Messiah and has come to save us. Because we have the grace of being born after Christ, we can truly live out his teachings and grow to be holy and virtuous people.
Yet sometimes, we don’t take advantage of our good position. We should rejoice that Christ has been revealed to us and that we can partake not only in his Church but in his Body and Blood. Jesus loves each of us and wants us to grow closer to him. Through the sacraments, the Mass, and the bible, we can all develop our faith and relationship with Christ. How can you do this today?
