“They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away.”
Matthew 24:39
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that just as in the days of Noah, the same will occur at the coming of the Son of Man. People were not paying attention to the signs, and they continued leading less than honorable lives up until the flood. Jesus then warns the disciples to stay awake, for they do not know when the Son of Man will come.
We must always be spiritually prepared for Christ to come again, because we do not know when it will happen. Jesus tells us that up until the great flood carried them away, people were doing ordinary things, yet they clearly were not focusing on God. We don’t want to be unprepared like them, when it is too late.
Since we do not know when we will die or when Jesus will come again, it is important to always be vigilant in prayer and living a Christian life. If we put off these things, it may be too late by the time we decide it’s the “right time.” How can you better prepare yourself and stay awake to Christ’s call in your life?
Saint of the Day
St. Andrew: died ca. AD 60
| The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. John 1:37-40 |
