“Teacher, when will this happen?
luke 21:7
And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”
Reflection
The people ask Jesus how they will know the end is near, and he tells them that others will come in his name, yet they shouldn’t follow them. There will be war and earthquakes, and people will be handed over because of Christ’s name. Jesus says they will be hated because of his name, but by persevering, their lives will be secure.
The people Jesus is talking to ask about a sign that will let them know when all the destruction our Lord speaks about will occur. We should always be prepared for the end of our lives, regardless of a sign. Knowing when the end is coming, of the world or our lives, can cause many to live however they want until the last minute, when they figure they can change their ways.
Yet this is not how we should live our lives. We should always be striving to be holy and virtuous, developing our relationship with Jesus, because we do not know when the end will come. Waiting until later might be too late, so we must be vigilant now in our spiritual lives. Reflect on how you can continually improve upon following Christ and listening to his will.
