“Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?”
luke 14:3
Reflection
Jesus is dining with a Pharisee, when he cures a man with dropsy. He does this on the sabbath, and questions the Pharisees and scholars present if it is lawful to cure on the sabbath; he also asks if they would save a son or ox on the sabbath if they fell into a cistern. All present are unable to answer.
Jesus again heals a person on the sabbath, which the Pharisees would have disapproved of. Yet Jesus tests them, asking if they would save their own son on the sabbath if necessary – they are unable to answer. Jesus wants to heal all of us, even if it seems to be at an inopportune or inappropriate time for us.
We must always be open to the Lord’s timing in our lives. Our ideal timeframe is not always what Jesus has in mind. When we entrust our lives to Christ and follow his lead, we realize that he perfectly plans everything. Ask for the grace to continue growing in trust.
