Gospel Reflection – October 22, 2025

Jesus tells his disciples they must be prepared because at an unexpected hour the Son of Man will come. Peter asks if Jesus’ statement is meant for everyone or just them. Jesus replies that the servants who follow the master’s commands will be awarded greatly, while the servants who don’t anticipate their master’s arrival and proceed to beat others and get drunk will be punished severely when the master finally arrives.

Jesus is giving us yet another example of how we should be living our lives – prepared at any moment to meet him. If we neglect our Christian duties and decide to live lives unworthy of Christ, we will be punished severely, for we did not properly prepare.

In order to be prepared, we should strive to grow in holiness and virtue throughout our lives. By being faithful to the Lord’s will, we are better preparing ourselves for eternity. With the fullness of truth entrusted to the Catholic faith, we have much to be responsible for in our spiritual lives. Ask the Lord for the grace to grow in virtue and understanding of his will for your life.
