Gospel Reflection – October 19, 2025

Jesus tells his disciples a parable about a judge who doesn’t fear God or respect anyone. A widow repeatedly tries to have him render a just decision for her, and eventually he does only because he wants to stop being bothered. Jesus then asks the disciples if God will be slow to answer those who call out to him continuously.

God is not like the unjust judge. He doesn’t answer our prayers only to make us ‘go away’ and stop bothering him. God loves us each infinitely and truly wants to answer our prayers, albeit in his own timing and way.

We should always be praying to the Lord, simply conversing with him. He wants us to speak to him daily, asking him for the graces we need. When we place our trust in Jesus, never hesitating to ask for assistance, he will provide it. How can you engage in prayer with the Lord today?

Saint of the Day

Sts. Isaac Jogues, Jean de Brébeuf, and Companions: died 1642 – 1649

“I spent the night in prayers, greatly beseeching our Lord that he should not allow me to reach a conclusion by myself; that he should give me light, in order to know His most holy will; that in all and through all I wished to follow it, even to the extent of being burned at a slow fire.”

St. Isaac Jogues
