Gospel Reflection – October 17, 2025

Jesus tells the crowd and his disciples that everything will be revealed, even what has been said in the darkness. He tells them they should not be afraid of those who can kill the body, but to fear the one who can cast you into Gehenna after death. Jesus also says that despite this, they should not be afraid because God is watching over them.

Despite the scariness of this world, we can rest in the knowledge that God loves us and is always caring for us. Jesus says that even sparrows are not forgotten by God; we are much more important than a sparrow. Jesus doesn’t want us to be afraid. When we place our confidence and trust in the Lord, then we can release any fear.

All of the hairs on our head have been counted – this is how much God knows us and cares for us. He asks us to let go of anxiety and fear, focusing solely on him and his plan for our lives. Reflect on how you can release your fears and anxieties, following Jesus’ voice throughout your day.

Saint of the Day

St. Ignatius of Antioch: died ca. AD 107

“Let no man deceive himself: if any one be not within the altar, he is deprived of the bread of God. For if the prayer of one or two possesses such power, how much more that of the bishop and the whole Church!”

Epistle of Ignatius to the Ephesians
