Gospel Reflection – October 13, 2025

Jesus tells the crowd that their generation is evil. They want a sign but will not be given one, except the sign of Jonah. Jesus says that something greater than Solomon is here, and the men of Nineveh will arise with their generation and condemn it.

We could apply the term “evil” to every generation. New evils are always arising, or old ones come back. There are people in every age that refuse to acknowledge God and instead worship idols. Chaos arises continually and people seek meaning in sin rather than in Jesus.

We each know someone who has turned away from the Faith, from Jesus himself. Some reasons might include finding purpose in what the world has to offer, not having enough evidence to believe in Christ, or simply not agreeing with Church teaching. We often hear that “you have your truth, and I have mine.” But there is only one truth, Jesus Christ.

We can’t pick and choose what we want to believe, especially concerning faith. Our generation is indeed evil for its many transgressions against Christ, and we have all taken part in it, however small. Today, reflect on how you can center your life on Christ and follow him instead of the world. Ask for the courage to step away from worldly temptations, choosing Jesus instead.

Saint of the Day

St. Theophilus of Antioch: died AD 181

“For as those who look with the eyes of the body perceive earthly objects and what concerns this life, and discriminate at the same time between things that differ… so the same holds good regarding the eyes of the soul and the ears of the heart, that it is by them we are able to behold God.”

Ad Autolycum, St. Theophilus
