Gospel Reflection – October 3, 2025

Jesus calls down woe upon towns he is visiting because they don’t believe in the deeds he has performed. He says it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment. Jesus also says that whoever rejects him rejects the one who sent him.

We all go through phases of rejecting Jesus in some manner. It could be by ignoring his teachings, not attending Mass, following your will instead of his. In whatever form our rejection takes, it fills our Lord’s heart with sorrow.

When we reject Jesus, we reject truth, peace, and joy. We might substitute earthly goods to fill those voids, but it never works. Jesus is the only person who can give us true fulfillment, so rejecting him leaves us empty. We might not always purposely reject Christ, but it comes about in smaller ways, like being uncharitable towards someone or choosing pleasure over prayer.

Today, reflect on how you can choose Jesus daily and reject temptations to turn away from him. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and give you an accepting heart.

Saint of the Day

St. Maximian: died AD 404

St. Maximian was a bishop in North Africa during the Donatist heresy. He resigned his position because of the hostile heretics and was thrown from a tower by them, but survived and moved to Italy.

St. Maximian, pray for us!
