“My mother and my brothers
luke 8:21
are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
Reflection
Mary and some of Jesus’ cousins are unable to join Jesus in a crowd. Jesus is told this, but he tells the people that his mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.
Jesus is showing that his family members are those who listen to him and act upon his words. These people share a special bond with our Lord. Hopefully, we are those people! Do we only listen to Jesus but fail to act? Or do we prayerfully reflect upon his words and then put them into action?
At Baptism, we become adopted sons and daughters of God. When we follow Christ, we grow in that relationship and strengthen that bond. Jesus wants us to grow closer to him throughout our lives, and to do that, we must first listen and then act, living out our Catholic faith daily.
