Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment,

she stood behind him at his feet weeping
and began to bathe his feet with her tears.
Reflection
Jesus is invited to dine at a Pharisee’s house. While there, a sinful woman comes and anoints Jesus’ feet with ointment. Jesus forgives the woman’s sins and tells her to go in peace, even while the Pharisee can’t believe Jesus’ behavior.
The intimacy the woman displays towards Jesus is astounding, especially considering her status as a ‘sinful’ woman during that time. Washing someone’s feet shows both humility and intimacy. Jesus wants us to be as intimate with him on a daily basis. He wants us to give him our entire lives and not be afraid to come to him with every single thought, problem, and emotion.
Sometimes it can be difficult to grow close to our Lord when we don’t physically see him. One way to grow in relationship is to visit Jesus in the Eucharist frequently. There, we can encounter him in a profound way. We can also set aside time each day to practice silence and immerse ourselves in the Lord’s presence. How can you grow in spiritual intimacy with Jesus today?
