When the Lord saw her,
luke 7:13
he was moved with pity for her and said to her,
“Do not weep.”
Reflection
While Jesus is approaching the city gates of Nain, a young man’s body is being carried out. When Jesus sees the man’s mother, he is moved with pity for her and tells the dead man to arise. He does, and all the people who witness the miracle glorify God and are amazed.
Jesus witnesses a grieving mother and is moved with pity for her; he then raises her son from the dead. Jesus does something we might think is impossible for this woman – bringing her son back to life. Jesus can do the same for us, too.
In situations where we need the impossible to be accomplished, Christ can do it. When we put our trust and faith in him, beautiful things happen. The result might not always be what we expect, but it is the result that God wishes because it is the best for us. We should approach every difficult situation in life with faith, especially when our prayers aren’t answered in the way we want them to be.
Jesus performs countless miracles in our lives; they may not be a grand gesture like saving someone from death, but they come about in small ways that help us grow closer to Christ. Can you identify the ways Jesus is working in your life today?
Saint of the Day
Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian: died AD 253 and 258
St. Cornelius was a pope during the 3rd century who was friends with St. Cyprian. They joined forces to combat wrongfully taught positions on forgiveness for sinners. Both were exiled and persecuted for their faith.
Saints Cornelius and Cyprian, pray for us!
