“Remove the wooden beam from your eye first.”
luke 6:42
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that no disciple is superior to his teacher, but will be like his teacher when fully trained. He also tells them to remove the beam in their own eye before pointing out the splinter in their brothers’ eyes.
Often, we like to point out other people’s imperfections before looking inward and seeing our own. It is easy to pick out the flaws we see in family or friends, yet Jesus tells us not to do so before we have removed the beam from our own eye.
Our imperfections and misconceptions taint the way we view others’ sins. When we can’t clearly understand where we are wrong, we tend to mislead and misjudge others. Reflecting on our interior and spiritual life is a good practice to maintain in every stage of life. We can constantly reassess our relationship with the Lord, others, holiness, and virtue. How are we improving? Today, ask the Lord to reveal the ‘beam’ in your eye and help you remove it.
Saint of the Day
The Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This feast day began in 1513 in Spain. It was eventually extended to the entire church and is a counterpart feast day to the Holy Name of Jesus.
Mother Mary, pray for us!
