Gospel Reflection – September 3, 2025

Jesus heals many people, including Simon Peter’s mother-in-law. He also casts out many demons, but does not permit them to speak because they know he is the Son of God. The people try to stop Jesus from leaving, but he tells them he must preach to other towns as well because that is his purpose.

Jesus’ healing power is something beautiful to meditate upon. In this Gospel, he cures people of their diseases and casts out demons. Jesus also wants to heal us daily. We might not have physical disease to be cured of, but he certainly desires to heal us of our sins, those that continuously fracture our relationship with him.

Do you allow the Lord into your heart to heal those broken places? It can be easy to deny him entrance and try to fix everything ourselves, not believing we need Christ’s help. Yet it is precisely at those moments that we need him the most. Jesus can heal every part of our body, mind, and soul. There is nothing he can’t do. Go to the Lord today and ask him to heal a broken piece of you. The process may take a long time, but with Jesus’ help, you will be transformed by his love and grow closer to our loving Savior.

Saint of the Day

St. Gregory the Great: died AD 604

“Ask yourselves whether you belong to his flock, whether you know him, whether the light of his truth shines in your minds. I assure you that it is not by faith that you will come to know him, but by love; not by mere conviction, but by action.”

Homily on the Gospels, Christ the Good Shepherd, St. Gregory the Great
