“A man going on a journey
matthew 25:14-15
called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.
To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one–
to each according to his ability.”
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples a parable about a man giving his servants various talents. One servant receives ten, another two, and another one. The servants with ten and two talents each double the amount, while the servant with one talent buries it in the ground. When the man returns, the servants present their newly acquired talents and are rewarded accordingly. The servant who only had one talent is called wicked and lazy, and thrown outside.
Even if we don’t think we have many ‘talents’ or gifts from the Lord, he still asks us to share them with the world. We use what we have been given to spread the Gospel message and bring Christ to those we encounter. Christ has given each of us specific gifts, knowing that we can use them in a unique way during our lives to glorify him.
God didn’t have to give us any talents; he could have let us all be the same, boring person. However, he chose to endow us with beautiful and unique gifts that are called to be shared with others and so give witness to Christ and his goodness. Jesus doesn’t want you to hide what you’ve been given – how can you better share your gifts and talents with those around you?
