“You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside,
matthew 23:27
but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.”
Reflection
Jesus continues to call out the Pharisees and scribes. He compares them to tombs, which are beautiful on the outside but full of dead things on the inside.
We must pay careful attention to what dwells inside our hearts. On the outside, we might appear holy or virtuous, but if our hearts are full of hate and evil, then we are simply deceiving ourselves and others. The Pharisees sought to look good outwardly, but inside, they were not as righteous as they seemed.
In order to avoid doing the same thing, we need to ask the Lord to help us truly reflect on our inner spiritual life. Does it accurately reflect how we live our lives, or are we simply putting on a mask? The Lord is calling you to be righteous and holy both interiorly and exteriorly – ask him to help you achieve this.

“One thing there was, for which I desired to remain still a little longer in this life, that I should see you a Catholic Christian before I died. This God has granted me in superabundance, in that I now see you His servant to the contempt of all worldly happiness.”
