Gospel Reflection – August 21, 2025

Jesus tells a parable about the kingdom of heaven where a king gives a wedding feast for his son. The invited guests refuse to come, some going back to their business at hand and others murdering the servants sent to bring them to the feast. The king becomes angry and destroys the city of the murderers. He then instructs his servants to invite everyone in the streets, good and bad, to the wedding feast. When they arrive, one man is not dressed in proper wedding garments, and is thrown into the darkness outside.

We are all invited to the wedding feast – the kingdom of heaven. God wants every person to be there with him, yet there are many who are unworthy. There are many people who know the end goal is heaven, but pay no attention and live their lives how they want. A life without God is unfulfilling. There is no true joy or peace, only fragments of it.

We have been called to the wedding feast at Baptism – do we answer the invitation God has given us? Do we live our lives following God’s will and building a relationship with him? Let us be the guests who rejoice at the chance to be in heaven with our Lord for eternity, living and preparing ourselves accordingly.

Saint of the Day

St. Pius X: 1835 – 1914

“Where is the road which leads us to Jesus Christ? It is before our eyes: it is the Church. It is our duty to recall to everyone, great and small, the absolute necessity we are under to have recourse to this Church in order to work out our eternal salvation.”

St. Pope Pius X
