Gospel Reflection – August 16, 2025

The disciples rebuke those who bring children to Jesus so that he may bless them. Jesus tells the disciples to let the children come to him, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

Jesus wants everyone to know him and love him – not just adults, but children too. He does not turn away anyone who earnestly seeks him, even if that person is only a child. Our Lord also wants us to remain childlike and approach him with this attitude, for a humble heart and radical trust lead us down the path to heaven.

It is sad that today many children do not know Christ, whether due to lack of education from parents or twisted views from society. How can you bring Jesus to little ones in your life? Perhaps it cannot be done overtly, but by showing them true Christian love, sacrifice, and virtue, you can reveal the Father’s great joy and love he has for all.

Saint of the Day

St. Stephen of Hungary: died 1038

“I perceive that all things, founded at the nod of God and disposed by his most manifest preordination, both in the spaciousness of the sky and in those most spacious climes of earth, do subsist and thrive wholly in accordance with the rationality of intelligence.”

Excerpt from King Saint Stephen’s Admonitions to his son Prince Emeric
