“Whoever becomes humble like this child
matthew 18:4
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
Reflection
The disciples ask Jesus who the greatest is in the kingdom of heaven. In response, he calls a child over and tells them they must become childlike, for whoever is humble like a child will be the greatest. He also tells them to not despise children, for it is God’s will that not one of them be lost.
Jesus reminds us today that we must be humble like children. A child places all their trust in their parents and loves them unconditionally. In the same way, we must place our trust in God, for he is our heavenly Father. He doesn’t want us to be led astray by evil; this is why he is constantly at our side, inviting us to be guided by him to heaven.
Jesus also asks us not to despise any little child, for their angels are always with God. Children reveal to us how our relationship with God should look like, and we shouldn’t hold it against them due to our loss of innocence. How can you begin to live more childlike? Ask for the grace to grow in humility and trust all the days of your life.
