“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.”
luke 10:41
Reflection
Jesus visits Martha and Mary. During the visit, Martha is serving while Mary sits at the feet of Jesus. Martha approaches Jesus and asks if he cares that her sister is not helping with the serving; Jesus replies that she is worried and anxious, but that Mary has chosen the better part.
We are worried and anxious like Martha throughout much of life. There are daily concerns that need to be addressed, and they seem to pile up with no end in sight. Yet do we take the time to sit with Jesus when those worries threaten to take over? He offers comfort and wisdom, which always outweighs our daily problems.
Jesus doesn’t leave us to do the hard things in life by ourselves, even if it sometimes seems like the case. He asks us to sit with him first, learn from him, bask in his love, and then tackle our issues with him by our side. Our Lord is wiser than us. When we turn to him first before addressing our worries, then everything seems less difficult and more manageable. Let the Lord’s love and wisdom guide your days, not your anxiety and worry.
Saint of the Day
St. Margaret of Antioch: died ca. AD 300
Nothing much is known about St. Margaret of Antioch. She was supposedly martyred because she refused to renounce her faith after not giving in to advances from a Roman prefect.
St. Margaret of Antioch, pray for us!
