“Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath
matthew 12:5
the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath
and are innocent?”
Reflection
As Jesus and his disciples walk through a field of grain, they eat the grain even though it is the Sabbath. The Pharisees tell them that this is unlawful, and Jesus quotes back various Scripture to them, saying that the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.
The Pharisees do not understand Jesus and therefore condemn the actions of his disciples. Many times during our lives, we condemn others because we do not understand them or the context in which the action is occurring. How quick are we to judge those people, when perhaps we are in the wrong?
While at times it is necessary to condemn the actions of others, we should remember to not judge right away. Jesus reminds us that we don’t know everything – we should seek to learn and truly understand before making a judgment. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your judgments and words towards others appropriately every day, growing in an understanding and open heart towards others.
