“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
matthew 11:25
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike.”
Reflection
Jesus praises his Father in heaven because he has revealed all the things Jesus is preaching to the childlike, not the wise and learned people. He says that all things have been handed over to him by the Father, and that no one knows the Father unless the Son wants to reveal him to certain people.
Are we childlike in our relationship with Jesus? Many things can be revealed when we adopt this attitude. While it is good to learn about Jesus, Scripture, Church teachings, etc. in a scholarly way, we need to pursue knowledge of Christ in a relational way as well. All the wisdom we can gain from doing the above activities doesn’t necessarily translate to a personal relationship with Jesus, the Father, or the Holy Spirit, although it can certainly enhance it.
Jesus wants us to have childlike trust in him, not questioning him or fighting back. He knows what is best for us and will reveal his plan if we let him. How can we get to know the Father and Son better? Run to them with arms wide open like a child, trusting completely that they will catch you, hold you, and love you perfectly through all moments in life. A father always takes cares of his children – you are God’s beloved child, let him take care of you forever.
