“And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.”
matthew 10:28
Reflection
Jesus tells the Apostles to not be afraid of those who are evil, for all that is now concealed will be revealed. He says that they must speak in the light what they have heard from him and to not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Everyone who acknowledges Jesus will be acknowledged before the Father, and those who deny him will be denied.
Jesus tells us not to worry, even though there is much evil in the world. All of the evil will be revealed before the end, even if it seems hopeless now. In contrast to Satan who works in the dark, Jesus is the light. He brings truth and goodness to all. We can take heart that he will prevail against the darkness and those who can kill our bodies on earth.
When you are anxious about the state of the world, remember that the Lord knows what is happening and will not abandon you. All of the hairs on our head are counted – that is how much he cares about us. If you follow Christ and maintain a strong faith, the outside darkness will not stop you or bring you to despair. Let Jesus’ loving light guide you always to our heavenly home.
