Gospel Reflection – July 8, 2025

A mute demoniac is brought to Jesus and when he drives the demon out, the people are amazed. However, the Pharisees tell them he drives out demons by the prince of demons. Jesus then travels around preaching and healing people. He has pity on them and tells his disciples that the harvest is abundant but there are few laborers, so they should ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers.

Jesus wants to bring every soul to the kingdom of heaven. In the Gospel, his heart is moved with pity for the people he encounters, for they are abandoned and troubled. People in our world today are still troubled and abandoned, perhaps even more so. Lost in their own ‘truth’ and living by twisted ideologies, they are searching for something more – real purpose and meaning, all found in Christ.

Jesus calls each of us to bring others to himself. This can be done in ways you might not think are effective, such as simply living your life in accordance with Christ. People will be able to witness your joy and peace, hopefully wanting to discover that for themselves. Ask Jesus how he can send you out to gather lost souls – the Holy Spirit will guide you in your mission and never abandon you.

Saint of the Day

St. Jeanne-Marie Kerguin: 1864 – 1900

“I am happy to have to suffer. When one suffers one is detached from the world. God wishes that I love more than all else; He has been so generous to me and has done so much for me since I came into this world.”

St. Jeanne-Marie
