Gospel Reflection – July 1, 2025

Jesus and his disciples are on a boat when a storm comes and waves are overtaking them. Jesus is asleep, and the disciples wake him, asking him to save them. Jesus asks why they are terrified and proceeds to rebuke the winds and sea. The disciples are amazed.

We often run to Jesus during times of terror, screaming for him to save us. Jesus’ response is always calm, never escalating to or matching our fear. He knows that everything will be alright; we only need to trust him during those times. Although we run to Jesus, we express our lack of faith in our fear and doubt that almost always pop up during the troubling times.

We know Jesus is God, that he is all powerful and can do anything. Why do we doubt him? As we grow in faith and trust, we are better able to place all our worries and troubles into Jesus’ hands, knowing that he will take care of them perfectly. The storm of life cannot overtake us when we place our trust in Christ. He is ready to respond and save us accordingly when we turn to him. Let us try to emulate Jesus’ calmness during trying times and truly grow in faith and trust.
