Gospel Reflection – June 20, 2025

Jesus tells his disciples to not store up treasure on earth, but to store up treasure in heaven, for nothing can destroy that treasure, unlike on earth. He also says that the lamp of the body is the eye. If the eye is bad, then the body is filled with darkness.

Are you storing up treasure on earth? Many of us do – in the form of money, land, homes, material items, etc. But we can take none of that with us when we die. This is why Jesus tells us to store up treasure in heaven, where it cannot be destroyed or stolen.

Developing and growing in virtue, following Christ sincerely, and living a Christian lifestyle are some ways we can store up treasure for heaven. These things prepare us for heaven and help us cultivate our relationship with Jesus. Focusing on earthly goods does not bring us closer to Christ; it usually draws us further away.

Reflect on what your focus and goal is for life. Do you desire to attain many earthly treasures and be satisfied in this life? Ask the Lord to reveal to you how you can set your mind and heart on heaven, our true home. How is he calling you to store treasure in heaven?
