Gospel Reflection – May 22, 2025

Jesus tells the disciples that he loves them as his Father loves Jesus himself. He tells them to remain in his love by keeping his commandments, therefore allowing Jesus’ joy to be in them and their joy to be complete.

Jesus wants us to be joyful and remain in his love. When we obey his commandments, we accomplish these things. Our Lord knows what is best for us – himself. To maximize our relationship with him and truly live a Christian life, we must do as the Lord commands.

When we do so, not only is Jesus’ joy in us, but our own joy is complete. This world offers ‘happiness’ in the form of many temptations, but it doesn’t offer joy. True joy is found in Christ alone. True love is found in Christ alone. He wants us to obtain these things here on earth so that we are better prepared for our heavenly home. Reflect on how you can better obey the Lord and thus grow in relationship with him.
