Gospel Reflection – May 18, 2025

Jesus tells his disciples that he will only be with them a little while longer, so he gives them a new commandment – that they should love one another, just as Jesus has loved them.

Jesus loves us so much that he died for us. He calls us to the same type of love for others. This is a continuous call, not something we do once and check off. Every day, Jesus asks us to love others well, even when it is difficult.

How can you love others you interact with like Jesus does? We can start by not judging and looking for flaws, but rather approach every person with kindness and the joy of Christ. Through this lens, we can begin to love just like our Lord, always striving to follow his perfect example.

St. Pope John I: died AD 526

St. Pope John I was pope during the Arian heresy. He was involved with trying to bring peace to the Church between East and West, but the Italian ruler was unhappy. Pope John I was eventually imprisoned and died shortly thereafter.

St. Pope John I, pray for us!
