“Do not let your hearts be troubled.”
john 14:1
John 14:1-6
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples to not let their hearts be troubled. He goes to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house, and they know the way he is going. Thomas says they do not know the way, and Jesus tells them that he is the way, the truth, and the life.
We are troubled by many things – family, work, faith, finances, etc. Yet Jesus says to each of us: Do not let your heart be troubled. He asks us to let go of our anxieties and fears, to rely on him alone. When we calm our heart and stop worrying, we give ourselves the opportunity to listen to and witness Christ working in our lives.
Our troubles can cloud our minds and overtake our lives, blocking out our ability to see Jesus clearly. All we need to focus on is the Lord, for he is the way, revealing a path towards him and away from our troubles. Although it is often difficult to let go, if we let Jesus gently take all the worries away, we find that he is healing and leading us to himself and true peace.
Saint of the Day
St. Simon Stock: 1165 – 1265
St. Simon Stock was an English priest who lived as a hermit at an early age. He eventually joined the Carmelites and became their superior general. The Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon and revealed the brown scapular, which is still worn by Carmelites today.
St. Simon, pray for us!
