“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send
john 13:20
receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”
John 13:16-20
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that no slave or messenger is greater than their master, and blessed is the person who understands this and does it. Whoever receives the one who sent Jesus receives Jesus himself, and vice versa.
Jesus is our Lord and Savior. While he humbles himself before us, we still must remember that he is God, and we are not greater than him. It can be easy to fall into thinking we know best for our lives, trying to be our own master, but when we fall into that attitude, we become closed to truly receiving Jesus.
If we are open to receiving the Lord in all humility, we open ourselves to the graces which he pours on us. Taking the position of humility and actually living it out is what Jesus calls us to do daily. He calls us to act humbly like him, and in doing so, receive him humbly so that we can be more complete.
