Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go?
john 6:68
You have the words of eternal life.”
John 6:60-69
Reflection
Some of Jesus’ disciples leave him because of his teaching on the Eucharist. Jesus knows those who do not truly believe and tells them his words are Spirit and life, and this is why no one can come to him unless the Father grants it. Jesus then asks the Twelve Apostles if they will also leave, but Peter says that Jesus is the Holy One of God and has the words of eternal life.
Jesus’ ‘tough’ teaching about his body being the Eucharist drives away many, but not Peter or the Twelve. In fact, Peter asks to whom they would go, for he understands that Jesus is truly God, even if not everything makes sense. Likewise, even when we don’t understand all that Jesus tells us, we shouldn’t turn away from him.
We must cling to our Lord like Peter. Going back to the world and our old ways will only offer more confusion, loneliness, and pain, even if it’s disguised as pleasure. Jesus’ teachings might not always be easy to accept rationally, but when we use our faith and hearts to believe, the rest will follow.
Pray for an increase in faith and to always stay with Christ, despite this messy world.

“He who relies on God does not let himself be overwhelmed by sufferings, anguish, death, or hell. He who does not lean on Him, how much fear he feels, how worried he walks!”
