Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;
john 6:35
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
John 6:30-35
Reflection
The people ask Jesus how they can believe in him, through what signs can this be possible, such as when Moses fed the Israelites with manna from heaven. Jesus tells them that his Father gives them the true bread from heaven – himself. Anyone who believes and comes to Jesus will not hunger or thirst.
Jesus gives us himself, and with that, the promise of never hungering or being thirsty. We can be filled completely – in the spiritual sense. All of our answers lie in him, and he fills us more than the world is capable of.
A life without Jesus is confusing and often sad. There is lack of meaning and purpose, even if not acknowledged. That is why Jesus says he gives life to the world. He gives us renewed life that has grown numb because of the world. Once we fully embrace what the Lord is offering us, we can begin to understand how our lives can be transformed by him – satiating our thirst and hunger for more, for purpose, for fulfillment, for love – by receiving him in the Eucharist.
