Gospel Reflection – April 17, 2025

Before the Passover meal, Jesus washes the feet of the disciples. When Peter questions him and even says that Jesus shouldn’t wash his feet, Jesus replies that this is necessary to do. He gives them an example as Lord and Teacher to perform this humbling gesture to others.

John tells us that Jesus knew his hour had come and that he loved his own in the world until the end. How beautiful to contemplate – Jesus loved us (in his earthly life) until the very end. He went to the cross bearing a love unfathomable for each one of us.

Jesus didn’t stop loving us then; his immense love continues, embracing us today and all days of our lives. How can we imitate this? By loving Jesus above all, giving our lives to him completely, and remaining true to him through all circumstances. We can choose to love the Lord until our end on earth, awaiting the moment when we will be united for all eternity.
