Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world.
john 8:12
Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have
the light of life.”
John 8:12-20
Reflection
Jesus tells the people he is the light of the world. The Pharisees say he can’t bear witness to himself, but Jesus replies that the Father bears witness to him. Jesus knows the Father, knows where he came from and is going; whereas the Pharisees do not believe in Christ and therefore don’t understand this.
Jesus is the light of the world. He illuminates all aspects of darkness and confusion both in the world and in ourselves. By doing this, he reveals truth and the path to heaven. When we choose to follow Christ, we walk in his path of truth, goodness, and beauty. We are better able to perceive the evil and darkness in the world, yet are secure in Jesus’ light and love.
The world offers us things that appear to be light, but in fact lead us to greater darkness. Christ only brings us closer to himself and does not confuse our mind or soul. He fills us with himself, the Truth.
Will you choose to walk in the light of Christ? Pray for the strength and courage to do so always, even when the world tempts you to do otherwise.
