“But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
matthew 5:19
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:17-19
Reflection
Jesus tells the people that he came not to abolish the law and prophets, but to fulfill them. He says that nothing will remain unaccomplished in the law. Jesus also states that anyone who relaxes the law and teaches others to do the same will be the least in the kingdom of heaven, whereas those who follow it accordingly will be called great.
Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant and comes to renew us with himself, the New Covenant. Yet we still must obey the law; we can’t disregard the Ten Commandments or throw particular teachings of the Church out the window. Jesus tells us we must faithfully do the things he has called us to do.
Many times, we take one aspect of the faith and do our best to always follow and perfect it. What about those things we struggle with? Do we put as much time and effort into understanding and putting into practice that difficult part of the law?
Reflect on how you struggle with the faith. Prayerfully ask the Lord to give you understanding and the strength to implement it into your life. We can’t pick and choose what we want to believe or practice, so ask for the courage to give your all to Jesus, every single day. He will guide you down the path of righteousness.

“For I am fully resolved in all things touching my faith, which I ground upon Jesus Christ, and by Him I steadfastly believe to be saved…and by God’s assistance I mean to live and die in the same faith.”
