“But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother
matthew 5:22
will be liable to judgment.”
Matthew 5:20-26
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples that if they’re angry with their brother, or if they call someone a fool, or fail to reconcile on the way to court, they will be liable to judgment.
Jesus is calling all of us to a higher standard of living. Rather than simply avoiding the ‘big’ sins like murder, even anger at family makes one liable for judgment. We must rise above our basest instincts and truly pursue virtue. While this can be difficult, the Lord is here to help.
During Lent, reflect on forgiveness and how you can practice it. Not only should we work on forgiving others when they’ve wronged us, but also work on not wronging others. When there are opportunities to display virtue instead of vice, take it. Ask Jesus to help you avoid sinning against others and follow his path of love and forgiveness.
