Gospel Reflection – March 12, 2025

Jesus tells the people that their generation is evil and no sign will be given it like they want – only the sign of Jonah. He says this generation will be condemned, for even the men of Ninevah repented, and Jesus is greater than Jonah.

Jonah fled from his duty of preaching in Ninevah and was swallowed by a whale. After, he did preach and the people in Ninevah repented. Jesus’ generation is not repenting and for that, he says they’ll be condemned. Oftentimes, we delay to repent of our sins or simply ignore the fact that we should repent and feel true sorrow.

During Lent, we are called to reflect and enter into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Part of this means detaching from various sins and repenting of them. We cannot grow closer to God while still holding tight to sin. He asks us to be truly sorry for having offended him and to let him heal us in that area.

Reflect on how you can practice an attitude of repentance and detach from sin this Lent. Ask Jesus to guide you down such a path.
