Then the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe, help my unbelief!”
mark 9:24
Mark 9:14-29
Reflection
Jesus comes to a large crowd that surrounds his disciples, demanding that a demon be cast out of a boy. The disciples cannot do it and the father asks Jesus to help if he can. Jesus rebukes the father for his unbelief and then casts the demon out.
The father of the boy doubted Jesus, but cries out for help with his unbelief. Often, we do the same thing, or should. There can be many times when we don’t truly trust the Lord. In those moments, we must ask for assistance with our lack of belief.
Jesus is God – he can do anything. When our trust and faith in him is lessened, for any reason, we need to go to him regardless. Pray for an increase of faith and an open heart. Many times we close our hearts to God because our faith is lacking. When we approach him with an attitude of humility and admit our lack of faith, he wraps us in his loving embrace and helps our unbelief.
